INTRODUCTION
The Graduate Studies Office at Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST), serves as the cornerstone of advanced academic and research pursuits within the university. MISSION
To provide proactive academic advising, ensure transparent milestone management, and offer integrated academic, administrative, and career support for the timely and compliant graduation of students in line with regulatory requirements.
GSO Mandate
To facilitate applicants across graduate programs, manage graduate assistantships, ensure timely disbursement of scholarships in accordance with University policy, and support registration and regulatory compliance of graduate students. It also oversees the receipt and audit of MS and PhD theses, organizes non-course graduate examinations in coordination with the Controller of Examinations, maintains approved panels of thesis evaluators, reviewers, and examiners, and liaises with HEC and BASR to fulfill all regulatory requirements related to graduate education at the University.
GSO RESPONSIBILITIES
(a) To maintain the personal files of MS/MPhil and PhD scholars of all the faculties.
(b) To ensure that the admissions granted in various PhD programs are in line with the University’s Policy.
(c) To facilitate the graduate and post-graduate students of the University in their registration and other associated matters.
(d) To liaise with the concerned Faculty for conduct of PhD examinations as per the instructions of the BASR.
(e) To maintain the timeline of all graduate students and ensure timely completion of their respective degree programs.
(f) To receive MS/PhD theses, perform desk audit for compliance of approved format and plagiarism status.
(g) To facilitate the conduct of MS/PhD theses defence by extending all necessary secretarial support.
(h) To communicate the result of MS/PhD theses after the receipt of their final copies, duly signed by all examiners, to the Controller of Examination Office.
(i) To communicate in writing the result of thesis defence on its conclusion with the approval of Convener of the Defence Committee.
(j) To manage the research scholars’ semester Progress Reports for the updation of portal and the scholars’ files.
(k) To prepare cases of graduate students and present them to BASR for approval.
(l) To prepare cases, as and when required, by the HEC and other Regulatory Bodies with the approval of Vice Chancellor.
(m) GSO shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Vice Chancellor of the University from time to time.
